Statement of Faith
THE BIBLE – We believe that the Bible is the complete Word of God; that the sixty six books as originally written, comprising the Old and New Testaments, were fully inspired by the Spirit of God, and that they are, therefore, entirely free from error; that the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice and the true basis of Christian union. Matthew 4:4; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21.
THE GODHEAD – TRINITY – We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons; that these three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, are equal in every Divine Attribute and that they have distinct but harmonious offices in the work of Creations, Providence, and Redemption. Deuteronomy 6:24; Nehemiah 9:6; John 14:16-17; Ephesians 2:13-18; 1 Corinthians 8:36; 2 Corinthians 13:14.
GOD THE FATHER – We believe in God the Father, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully with the affairs of mankind, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and eternal death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. Exodus 20:2-3; 1 Corinthians 8:36
THE LORD JESUS CHRIST – We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God full of grace and truth. We believe in the essential deity and eternal existence of the Lord Jesus Christ with the father in preincarnate glory, in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles and teachings, His substitutionary atoning death for the sins of all people, His bodily resurrection, triumphant ascension, mediatorial ministry and His personal, visible return. John 1:1-2, 14; John 3:16; Romans 24, 25; 1 Peter 2:21-24; 1 John 2:1, 2; Revelation 3:10.
THE HOLY SPIRIT – We believe in the absolute and essential deity of the Holy Spirit who convicts of sin, righteousness, and judgment; Who regenerates, illuminates, sanctifies, seals, indwells, teaches, and comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ. Genesis 1:22; John 16:7-13; Acts 1:5-8; Acts 5:3-4; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Hebrews 9:14.
SATAN – We believe that Satan exists as an evil personality the originator of sin, mankind’s great tempter and deceiver, the arch-enemy of God, the accuser of the saints, the author of false religions, the inspirer of all apostasy and the chief of all the powers of darkness. His defeat, however, has been declared and eternal punishment awaits him. Isaiah 14:12-17; Matthew 25:41; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:12; Revelation 2:10; Revelation 12:9.
HUMANITY – We believe that the human race was created by God in His image and was originally perfect, but the first man, Adam, sinned against his Creator in an act of rebellion and disobedience. As a result of Adam’s sin, the entire human race, excluding Christ, is alienated from God, condemned to spiritual and physical death, and utterly helpless to establish reconciliation with God. Genesis 1:27; Acts 17:24-28; Romans 3:10-12; Romans 5:12-19; Ephesians 4:18-32.
SALVATION – We believe that Salvation was purchased by the Lord. Jesus Christ on the cross and that His voluntary death was a substitute for us, whereby He paid the full penalty before God which our sins deserved. We believe that salvation is made available to us only by the grace of God through faith in the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ and that those who are so redeemed shall be divinely preserved and finally perfected in the image of the Lord. We further believe that salvation is offered to the whole human race, for God is not willing that any should perish; John 3:3-21; Romans 5:1-9; Ephesians 1:1-7; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 2:14; John 10:28-29; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 5:11-13.
THE CHURCH – We believe that a church is a company of believers baptized upon a credible profession of faith in Jesus Christ, called out from the world, separated unto Christ, voluntarily associated for worship, the ministry of God’s Word, the mutual edification of its members, the propagation of the faith, and the observance of the divine ordinances. We believe it is a sovereign, independent body, exercising its own divinely-awarded gifts, precepts and privileges, under the Lordship of Christ, the great Head of the church. We believe that its leaders are Pastors (Elders) and Deacons. Matthew 18:17-19; Matthew 28:18-20; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27; Ephesians 4:25-27; 1 Timothy 3:11-15.
ORDINANCES – We believe that there are only two ordinances for the church regularly observed in the New Testament in the following order:
Baptism, which is the immersion of the believer in water, whereby he obeys Christ’s command and sets forth his identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:38-42; Acts 8:36-40; Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12.
The Lord’s Supper, which in the memorial of the Lord’s death (his crucified body and shed blood) symbolized by the bread and the fruit of the vine in which all believers who are in right relationship with the Lord and with each other are entitled to participate. Luke 22:14-20; Acts 2:41; 1 Corinthians 11:23-30.
FUTURE THINGS – We believe in the personal, bodily, and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ who will judge both the living and the resurrected dead. The righteous will inherit eternal blessedness, and the unrighteous will receive eternal punishment. The culmination of history is life with the Lord in the new heavens and the new earth. Matthew 25:31-46; John 5:28-29; John 14:3; 1 Thessalonians 1:10; Revelation 20:22
THE CHURCH AND STATE – We believe in the entire separation of church and state. Matthew 22:21; Luke 20:22-25; Romans 13:1-7.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY – We believe in religious liberty; that every person has the right to practice and propagate his beliefs. Acts 5:29
THE LORD’S DAY – We believe that the first day of the week is the Lord’s Day, and that, in a special sense, it is divinely appointed day for worship and spiritual exercise. Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 16:22; Revelation 1:10.
CIVIL GOVERNMENT – We believe that the civil government is of divine appointment for the interest and good order of society; that those in authority are to be prayed for, conscientiously honoured and obeyed, except only in the things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the only Lord of the conscience and the Prince of the Kings of the earth. Romans 12:1-3; Romans 13:1-7; 1 Peter 2:13-17.
